Hello ChinesePodders!

July 02, 2007, 09:50 AM posted in General DiscussionHello all,
My name's John Biesnecker, and I've just started working at the ChinesePod offices. I'm handling customer service (if you have problems and e-mail us, you'll probably get a response from me) and whatever else they think up for me to do (they're slave drivers, I tell you!).
I'll also be active in the Conversations section and the forum, and hopefully I'll get to know the members of this awesome community over the coming days and weeks.
I'm originally from Orlando, Florida, and I've been in China since 2003. For about 15 months prior to this I worked as a full-time Chinese-English translator. I enjoy languages, and am studying Japanese as well. I tinker around on the web, too.
大家加油!!

July 03, 2007, 06:36 AMHi Fu Da Wei, You're right! That sounds more appropriate! In any case, John Pasden wasn't all too happy about the "Lanky" nickname so we better come up with another one!

July 02, 2007, 12:24 PMDo you hate or love the Yankees?
johnb
July 02, 2007, 12:34 PMRonInDC, Hate, with a passion. :) But I don't hold it against anyone... too much... well maybe a little :P But cut me and I bleed Cardinals red.

July 02, 2007, 01:08 PMI guess I know your stance on the Cubbies ;-)

July 02, 2007, 02:28 PMHi Johnb and Welcome, By using Podders instead of Poddies in your title here, you sound a bit like an outsider. ... just kidding ! :)

July 02, 2007, 03:18 PMHi John!! Thanks for taking on such a monumental task as customer service! We, the community, look forward to getting to know you better! And, may I suggest "JohnnyB"...it just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? Unless you think it sounds to boyish for you...?

July 02, 2007, 03:27 PMJohn-Boy? Rapmaster J? Biester? Yuēhàn?

July 02, 2007, 03:29 PMOr, maybe we could just call Pasden "Tex".

July 02, 2007, 03:42 PMHi John, Glad to have you moderating out posts, look forward to seeing you online! By the way seeing that you've worked as an interpreter in the past, if you have any advice on how to break into the field I'm definately all ears! 非常高兴认识你!
franch
July 02, 2007, 12:20 PMSneck?? JohnB, I'm sure you will be strong enough not to be confused with the self-sufficient John. Did you choose your avatar in light of the kind of complaints you'll have to deal with? Well done. I'm looking forward to a glorious debut! Sneck??

July 02, 2007, 10:27 PMsome times translating is only possible with interpreting is it? BTW 你好 and welcome from me too. ähm.. so you are the one to give Eileen more freetime now? ;-)

July 02, 2007, 11:39 PMSo what does "customer service" involve? When audio is chipmunked, are you the guy we complain to? How about typos and bugs in Vocabulary and elsewhere?

July 03, 2007, 01:41 AMJB, Glad you're surviving the interrogation... just a few more teeth to pull... blue&orange or garnet&gold? waffle house or skeeters? duibuqi or buhao yisi? Amber or Jenny Zhu? TaiPan

July 03, 2007, 02:04 AMJohn B totally rocks! I agree though that we should give you a nickname or change John Pasden's name to "Tex". I'm gonna suggest that change once "Lanky J" comes into the office! haha... excuter, John B's out to get my job! aeflow, yup, you can leave a message for both of us about the typos, etc. and we will reply to you asap!

July 03, 2007, 03:19 AM" ... once "Lanky J" comes into the office!" That should be: " ... once 'Lanky J' moseys his keister into the bunkhouse."

July 03, 2007, 04:15 AMHa ha! Very amusing thread here. I'm going to have to think up a bizarre nickname for each and every person that calls me "Tex." :)
azerdocmom
July 03, 2007, 04:20 AM?Tex? But, you're not from Texas, John, as evidenced from your Sinosplice bio: "I am originally from Brandon, Florida (a suburb of Tampa), and am a graduate of the University of Florida (Gainesville), where I majored in Japanese Language and Literature."

July 03, 2007, 05:41 AMTaiPan, blue&orange or garnet&gold? Blue & Orange waffle house or skeeters? Waffle House duibuqi or buhao yisi? Buhao Yisi Amber or Jenny Zhu? I plead the fifth! :P

July 02, 2007, 09:43 PMRonInDC, I actually have a lot of love for the Cubbies. Respectful and dedicated fans, no designated hitter, and no George Steinbrenner -- what's not to love? FuDaWei, I thought JohnB would work. :) My in-laws call me Yuehan, so I guess that would be OK, too. I totally support calling Pasden "Tex," however, or as we did back in the day: "Lanky J." AZERDocMom, thanks! I hope I'll be able to deliver the sort of customer service that the community expects and deserves. :) JohnnyB works, too. kmkfr, Poddies, got it! As you can see, I've only just begun the rigorous 19-step indoctrination process. ;-P xiaohu, 我也非常高兴认识你!Unfortunately, I wasn't an interpreter, just a translator, which I'm pretty sure is about a million times easier.

July 02, 2007, 11:21 AMWe already have a John. We'll need a new name for you. Johnny? JB? Sneck?? We'll get back to ya ...
