Baz Lurhman's 澳大利亚

I really don't know what to make of this movie. For those that have read ‘Poor Fellow My Country' by Xavier Herbert 1977 (a must read for Australian's in my view) will see where Baz got his idea from. The issues raised in the novel were barely canvassed in the movie, understandable given that bums on seats is all important.

The novel is an epic, 1500 pages, but is in fact an accurate historical narrative and critique of Australia in the first half of the 20th century. Herbert delivered a nice right hook to a mostly ignorant public.  No mention in the movie of the appalling behaviour, panic, and cowardice on display after the Darwin bombings, perhaps because Australians wouldn't be able to stomach the truth, yet.

well, Herbert did test by writing the novel. it won australia's highest literary award, however,1500 pages would discourage most people from reading it.

it's my favourite book, i've read it twice and am dissapointed i didn't bring it with me.

Bababardwan,

I found the chinese name here :

Btw, it's strange to see that the transliterations of Buzz and Baz are the same in chinese.

See 巴兹·奥尔德林 (Buzz Aldrin)
