I just joined as a new member, and I am looking forward to learning lot's from the lessons and everyones posts.
I will be spending 6 weeks in Shanghai starting in June and I hope to get through all of the newbie lessons before I go. (unrealistic....who knows???)
I have to say that I looked into a couple of other Podcast sites that are quite similar to Chinesepod, but was really enamoured by Ken and Jenny. You guys really make the lessons fun. I'me hooked.
Best regards,
Jason

Welcome Jason. I usually don't post for fear of making mistakes, but I am attempting to write:
"Wo3 neng2 gen1 ni3 qu4 Shang4 Hai3 ma?"
"Can I go to Shanghai with you?“

March 19, 2009, 04:34 AM@jason Welcome to ChinesePod mate! There are a lot of Newbie lessons, so I suggest you do a number of things. 1st check out the pronunciation guide and download the pinyin chart (it's awesome!). There are pronunciation descriptions for all the sounds in the left hand column on the pronunciation page too.
In order to choose which lessons to do first, perhaps check out this page with lessons sets (but then agian with new sets being added all the time you may have to search through the pages a little - just look for NEWBIE sets uploaded by cpodwizard - they cover most of the main topics:
http://chinesepod.com/lessons/sets?page=3
there are two good newbie sets here too

As for practice I recommend using flash cards. You can save vocab from in the lessons to your vocab tab in 'ME' then either use our flashcard app or even export to other awesome flashcard apps like ANKI (instructions on how to do so are here: http://blog.chinesepod.com/2009/03/18/new-export-functionality-for-chinesepod/)
Anyway, if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
Regards,
Matt Coleman
