The phrase, 不好意思, seems to have a variety of uses other than it's literal meaning and appreciation.  I noticed Pete used it as an example in his Poems with Pete lesson.  It seems to be used a lot in everyday speech.  Can someone explain its different uses - or might it be worth a Qing Wen topic?

I think two meanings are, sorry, as in 'how embarrassing,' or thank you for when given a gift or invited to dinner or something
