using "Lai"

I have noticed that many times, the word 'lai' (as in come) is used after verbs. What effect does this have? Eg 'Ting lai yi xia' ( roughly 'listen for a second) .

用在动词后,(after verbs)

（1）表示估计或着眼于某一方面；for example:听起来（ting1qi3lai2）,看起来(kan4qi3lai2),闻起来(wen2qi3lai2)

（2）表示动作的趋向：for example:上来（shang1lai2）,起来(qi3lai2)。

也可以用在动词的前面。

1. 你不用了，休息一下，我来做吧！

2. a 等一下嘛，你对电脑什么都不知道，还是我来帮你买好吧？

    b 好的，谢谢你呀，那你什么时候要过来呢？

    a 马上，一个小时就到了

    b 那么，我来顶午餐请你吃好吗？想吃什么呢？

    a 随便，什么都可以，你来选吧！我先挂了哈，要不怕我来不及了，拜拜。
