this doesn't have anything to do with Chinese Pod per se, but I was just wondering about this.

I got a Chinese game the other day but I can't start it because I don't know which button to press.

Could anyone help me out please?

I just want to know which button I'm supposed to click.

開始遊戲

線上更新

硬體偵測

離開遊戲

if it was all traditional? Looks like only the bottom middle one to me.

开始游戏 (kāishǐ yóuxì)- Start game

线上更新 (xiànshàng gēngxīn)- Online update

会员注册 (huìyuán zhùcè) - Member registration

游戏说明 (yóuxì shuōmíng) - Game explanation

硬体侦测 (yìngtǐ zhēncè) - Detect Hardware

离开游戏 (Líkāi yóuxì) - Exit game

That's right, it is 更新 (gēngxīn).

@xiaohu, DOH! 抱歉！Yes, it should be geng1xin1 -- that's what I get for typing pinyin before coffee. :) Thankfully, I can edit my posts, so it shouldn't mess anyone else up :P

A more general question is, are there any resources for understanding semi-cursive characters?

For Japanese, there's A Reader of Handwritten Japanese by P.G. O'Neill. Any equivalent for Chinese?

I know that stroke order in Japanese is not quite the same as in Chinese (for instance for 田 they do the vertical stroke before the horizontal). Presumably that affects the way cursive characters are written as well?

The ones in the illustration above aren't too bad, but the more cursive, the trickier it gets.
