BTW: I do not master *any* latin. I just build up on some comic book afterglow in my brain. I figured that it should be easier to find the translation if you are basing your search on the original.

I'm learning some new(for me) sentence constructions. If you said this sentence, 我们学习，不是学校，就是生活, would it have the same meaning? I'm not real clear on the 为了. I see the meaning "for the purpose of". Any tips on using it? I think this "sentence of the day" thing can be 既振奋 又讲习 (another sentence structure I'm learning)

Here are two examples from CPod lessons for 为了 (only Advanced lessons with this construction): 一些父母为了赚钱常常忽略了对孩子的教育。 现在为了健康，只得乖乖舍弃了吧？ Also there is dict.cn. It gives you the following 8 examples. 1. 为了维持身体健康，一个人应该吃有益健康的食品，并经常锻炼身体。 In order to maintain physical well being, a person should eat wholesome food and get sufficient exercise. 2. 为了使它更实用，这本书在下一版本中将编有索引。 The book will be indexed in the next edition so as to make it more useful. 3. 他为了养家不得不去拼命工作。 He had to work hard for the maintenance of his family. 4. 为了我们理解，老师列举了很多事例。 The teacher enumerated many examples to us for understanding. 5. 这个国家同意为了共同的安全而与邻国结盟。 The country agreed to confederate with the neighboring country for mutual safety. 6. 你到伦敦来的目的是为了要看望家人还是为了公事？ Did you come to London for the purpose of seeing your family, or for business purposes? 7. 这位冠军为了下一场比赛正在进行训练。 The champion is in training for his next fight. 8. 为了收集数据我们发给他们一些调查表。 We gave them some questionnaires for collecting data.
