Advanced Grammar Book?

May 23, 2009, 05:37 PM posted in General DiscussionFor a long time I've been looking for a good grammar reference for more advanced students - all I've been able to find are quite comprehensive grammar books for Cantonese, but not for Mandarin. Perhaps my expectations are too high, but I was hoping to find something akin to "Practical English Usage" (Oxford Press), a reference book that covers most post-intermediate grammar points as well as basic stuff. I already own Intermediate Chinese (Yip/Rimmington) and Modern Mandarin Chinese Grammar (Claudia Ross/Jing-Heng Sheng Ma).
Do you have any recommendations? Doesn't matter if the book is only available in China and/or entirely in Chinese, or if it's a grammar guide for native speakers, as long as the points discussed are accompanied by examples. ;)
Thanks in advance!

I have the Ross book (and schaum outline) and the Yip/Rimmington set and I have to agree, they are the best. Not sure which is #1 but I use both.

I own a lot Chinese grammar books, this one is the best.
Rank 2 IMHO are the books "Basic Chinese" and "Intermediate Chinese" by Yip/Rimmington.
