My strategy is to learn the minimum number of strokes that make up the characters. It is more that eight, but less than thirty. For instance, the first stroke for the character for 'girl' is a special case. I start by leaning only slightly off horizontal and then finish the stroke with a diagonal that is slightly concave down.
