Leaky water? any clues?

July 18, 2007, 04:35 PM posted in General DiscussionDRIP DRIP DRIP - Tonight, and a few times recently, I have people say to me 'liu shui', as in something like "ta liu shui". It could be very well that they're saying 'liu sui' and sorry but I'm not too sure on the tones.
It's interesting because even in the context of the conversation, it still had a very fuzzy feeling to it. Is it 流水， as he's under a lot of stress, he's sweating it? It also kinda seemed to be like some new hip terminology?
Anyone know?

July 19, 2007, 12:56 AMHi M2T, it wouldn't be related to students, there were no students around. Laodai, you were serious with the "go with the flow". That could fit. As in "he is just going with the flow" and not upsetting things. This would fit in the context of our conversation. kinda?.. (Not that I'm keeping track anymore, but if the algorithm counts comments in threads that I originated, then I should have gone from 100 to 107, instead I'm at 104, which actually is good if it only counts posters, rather than poster comments. Has anyone actually SEEN this algorithm and made sure there is no extra weighting for John posts....huh...huh, have'ya?! )

July 19, 2007, 03:15 AMI would second Man2Toe. There need not be students around for Chinese to say 留学. It's just takes a 老外who speaks some Chinese. Where I am liu xue sounds more like liu xiu.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't 留学 though because the person I was talking with was definitely referring to her husband, who's Chinese and the conversation had nothing to do with students, etc. Also, on the pronunciation of xue, my ambiguity is in whether I heard a 'sh' versus a 's', not the x sound. She definitely had a 'ui' as in 'shui' at the end. Sure must be tought to guess huh! Keep the guesses coming though, maybe something will stick or jog someone's memory.
