July 21, 2007, 04:59 PMTOUGH TO GO - wow, that was not easy, only Google gave back a translation for sabbatical directly. I would defer to a native Chinese speaker for the proper word. I'm not sure that xiu jia has the clearest connotation for sabbatical which means extended leave, and usually not for a vacation-like purpose. 休假 xiu jia, vacation, leave of absence http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr http://ets6.freetranslation.com/ http://translate.google.com/translate_t

July 21, 2007, 05:05 PMDict.cn gave me 安息日的 and from the respective Google hits it might fit, but I am also not certain.

July 21, 2007, 10:33 PMIn my dictionary, it says Sabbatic=Sabbatical which means 安息日的 adj. sabbatical:休假的 adj, 较长的假,休假 n. Sabbatism: 严守安息日n. Sabbatarianism: 严守星期日为安息日,守安息日(星期六)n. I am a Chinese, but i do not use this word so often, because it is kind a word for religion. For me, I think it is a holiday like Saturday or Sunday.

July 23, 2007, 03:53 AMhi everyone, If the leave of absense is for further education, you could say: 去进修 (qù jìnxiū)

July 21, 2007, 04:50 PMGoogle translate isn't on target, that engine gives 休假. I've recently come across this word in conversation but I can't come up with the words....休假 does come up as leave of absence in some engines. dict.cn come up with 公休假 for sabbatical leave. You need Cpod's word for this.
