Symphony Countdown

September 15, 2009, 12:56 PM posted in General DiscussionNothing whatsoever to do with Chinese, but I get the feeling there may be a number of classical music listeners here. Australia's Classic FM is in the middle of playing a countdown of the top 100 symphonies as voted by the Australian public. I highly recommend you visit Classic FM online and listen to the countdown. Currently playing Sibelius' 1st at no. 48 - not one of my favourites, but worth listening to. Haven't learnt any Mandarin this week - dying to see how the countdown pans out. I just hope the Choral Symphony isn't no. 1 in 4 days time.

Enjoyed a bristling performance of the New World Symphony by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. They would have to be one of the best orchestras in the world. The Sydney Symphony might have something to say about that now that Vladimir Ashkenazy is their chief conductor.
Now thats over, I can get back to studying Mandarin - I think classical music must use the same brainspace as languages, cause I can't remember anything.
