Exercises: answers input problem!

Hello there! I am in trouble both with the Dictation and the Multiple Choice exercises.

Dictation does not recognize the characters I type as answers and it seems to require only chinese hanzi that I'm not able to type! Hence.....I score 0!

 

In Multiple Choice I cannot even type in the blank space left for the answers.....hence.....another 0 score!

As you can imagine, that's rather annoying.

Please, help me! 

P.S. Mac OS X 10.6.1
