你什么时候打算收集一切好建议再修改你的杰作?(When will you gather up all the suggestions and revise your masterpiece?)
Did I use 再 correctly? Is this the best word to use here?
谢谢

You are right. Sometimes when we translate English to Chinese, try to concern more about the usage than grammer. Though grammer is more important, don't forget to check whether your sentence is popular. 符合语言习惯有时候更加重要的哦。

December 19, 2009, 02:19 AMThere should definately be a Qingwen on it!
To be quite honest, I'm not really sure myself. I've heard the 把。。。起来 structure used so often, I just feel like it's appropriate here. A lot of what I say in Chinese is just by feeling it out. My strength has never been grammar, at least, being able to identify and verbalize when a particular grammatical structure should be structured and when it's appropriate to use it.
My strength is mimicry, so it's easier for me to just observe, note when something is used often, try to figure out why it's used and emply it into my own speech.
I suppose, 把。。。一下 could work here too, but I felt like 起来 would work better to indicate the meaning of, "gather together your good ideas and write your masterpiece."

December 19, 2009, 02:00 AMHey xiaohu
Thanks for the suggestion. actually, you bring up something that has bothered me for quite some time.
You said: 收集起来
Now, I can see why it would be okay to add 起来 and make a 把 sentence, but I fail to see why it would be prefered over just using 收集 and adding a 宾语 after it. Can you give me any insight into your thinking? You know, I have gone over 起来 in class before, but I have never had a teacher been able to explain when it is necessary to use and when it is optional.
I should check to see if there is a qingwen episode. If there isn't, there should be.

December 27, 2009, 10:52 AM一切 and 所有的 almost mean the same ,however, there still is a little difference between the two words.
for example,
把你们所有的东西交出来。here, you cannot use 一切。
但在一些含义较为广泛的场合,比如
世界所有的/一切的生物,这里,两者通用。

December 27, 2009, 09:55 AM我觉得你可以这么翻译比较好点:
你打算什么时候收集所有的建议,然后修改你的杰作。
把and翻译成“然后”,和“再”意思有点点相似,都表示事情的先后,不过我觉得用然后更妥当点。

December 19, 2009, 01:48 AMXiaophil,
I feel like it might be better to say the sentence this way,
你打算什么时候把你所有的好主义收集起来而编写你的杰作?
My gut instinct is that you should use 而 instead of 再.
Of course, don't take my word for it, we'll definately need the counselor's verification on this.
