Music that isn't soupy ballads?

I know the chinese pop charts are half in love with soupy ballads (usually about doomed love), and half in love with bouncy korean/jpop/something similar.
Can anyone recommend any more "indie" style chinese music? Or am I hoping in vain? The only recommendations I've been sent have been either Fay Wong, Jay Choi, or some awful hair rockers right out of 1986 :)

March 03, 2010, 04:22 AMI highly recommend Soler's music.
They compose the music, write the lyrics and each play numerous instruments. Some of their songs are very Rock. Some are more soulful, some are more Folk, and even others are rather Pop. They mostly produce albums in Cantonese and Mandarin and English, but I have also seen them perform in their native Italian, as well as in Portuguese.
