Hi,

Does anyone know how to create a new vocabulary set in vocabulary manager? I can create a new label, but importing my existing list of words into the new set label isn't clear.  Any step-by-step instructions are greatly appreciated.

BTW, any instructions around exporting these things to the iPod is appreciated also.

pretzellogic,

The process should work like the process for creating and sharing a lesson set.

Basically, a "set" is defined as a group of items which share a user label made public to other users.  The "items" can be lessons or vocab words.

The steps are:

1. Go into the Vocab Manager

2. Add labels to words (create the label as you do it, if you need to)

3. Click on [Edit Labels] at the top

4. Change "Shared Status" to "Yes"

This is all you need to do to share the new vocab set.  Unfortunately, there is a bug currently preventing other users from properly seeing your vocab set.  We will have this fixed soon.

Hi John,

Thanks for this. I think I was looking for something simpler.  I was trying to create a vocab set, and when you say "add labels", you don't mean to use that "label" tag next to the vocab word in English, nor do you mean that you should create a new label first like "chamber of commerce", then select words to put into it.  The steps for creating a new vocab set seem to be:

1. Go to Vocab Manager

2. Next to the "show" line, you should see "all vocabulary", and then next to that is highlighted "edit labels".  Click on that.

3. at the bottom of this page is a "create label" box.  create label of your choosing, and push the buttom that says "create"

4. you should be returned to the previous screen.  at this screen with your list of all vocabulary words, check the boxes on the left hand side of any words that you want in your newly created label.

5. at the line with a remove button, you should see "apply label". Pull down the newly created label from that menu.

6. all words highlighted in step 4 should now have the new label name on the right of the word.

It looks like I was the only one having a problem with this, so maybe this post is more for my own records and I can go back later and consult with this.

Just curious, why aren't the instructions for using the vocab manager on the same page as on the vocab manager, in addition to being in a centrally located FAQ section?

Thanks.

Creating lesson sets:

1. Go to Vocab Manager

2. Next to the "show" line, you should see "all vocabulary", and then next to that is highlighted "edit labels". Click on that.

3. at the bottom of this page is a "create label" box. create label of your choosing, and push the buttom that says "create". the new title has been created, and you should see it at the top of the list of sets (assuming you've created more than one).

4. Click on "back to vocabulary" link at the top of the list. you should be returned to the previous screen.

5. at this screen with your list of all vocabulary words, check the boxes on the left hand side of any words that you want in your newly created label.

6. at the line with a remove button, you should see "apply label". Pull down the newly created label from that menu.

7. all words highlighted in step 5 should now have the new label name on the right of the word.
