A better shirt would read "我能听懂." John, print a couple of these out and I'll definitely buy them. =) Better yet, some comfy sweaters or scarves so I can stock up for the long winter looming around the corner.

Funny shirt : ) I like it. But, Bazza, you can't wear that one because you DO 看懂. You should wear the other one, the "那個 plz" shirt when you show up in Shanghai (and just point at everything.) That'd be funny!

I thought it would be funny to proof it wrong. ;) If the other one means what I thing it's suppose to, it's a little bit too racist.

Hmmm, I think "那個 plz" means "that one please" or perhaps I am just too naive; I don't know what else it could mean.

to get what he means you just have to think of an old, bad, english word to call people with an not milky and not middle-european teint. For an exacter description ask again (or look at a picture with Matt Damon and than on one of denzel washington maybe that helps you find the swearword)

I make T-shirts for my students that read: 我不知道. Wǒ bù zhīdào. Then, when someone asks what it says, they can truthfully say, "I don't know."

你个 is probably closer as a sound-alike but then it wouldn't have a double meaning.

It just kills me that the N-word, so popular in American hip hop, is making it's way to Asia (after 20 years). Of course, there is no accompanying compunction about throwing it about, and an utter lack of understanding of that word's history. It IS racist no matter what the web site says. I think I would definately start a boycott of http://www.post-jdm.com/.

I've never heard of white foreigners as being refered to as "bai ren". In fact, though some Chinese say that they have "yellow" skin, many women strive to be "as white as possible" by staying out of the sun and eating healthy, as "whiter is better". Also, and maybe this is just a dong1bei3 thing, but the Chinese up here in Harbin use the sound "nigga" as English speakers would use "uhmmm...."

Coloured skin is good, and tans are good too. There is an illegal bleach for colored people, that burns away pigment. (bad idea) there are 3 types of yellow skin 1 Pigment variation (Normal) 2 jaundice / hepatic (Abnormal) 3 Simpsons

I had a friend in Hangzhou that used to walk around going "那个请" all the time. It was, in a word, hilarious (not that I support such things in any way :))
