Chinese National Day - 国庆

August 31, 2007, 07:23 PM posted in General DiscussionI just realized that I will be coming to Shanghai towards the end of the upcoming golden week 十一黄金周 (Shí-Yī huángjīnzhōu)celebrating the National Day 国庆节 (guóqìngjié) on October 1st。
While Oct.1 is the subject of an advanced lesson I'd like to know what will the impact be on Shanghai then. Will oceans of people 人山人海 (rénshānrénhǎi) have come to the city like a swarm of bees 一窝蜂 (yīwōfēng) or be all gone to the Maldives? Will the week-end be more / less crowded than usual, is this going to be tourists peak time (旅游高峰期 lǚyóu gāofēngqī) ?

August 31, 2007, 07:59 PM哈哈 well, me neither but you're bound to be that feeling going to Chinese cities. Anyway, I'll be on my own and it's meant to be everything but a romantic holiday in my case.

September 01, 2007, 03:54 AMhi goulniky, I've never gone away for the 'golden week' holidays, and I always find them quite relaxing in Shanghai. It's a lot quieter, everyone is laid back and finally taking a bit of time to enjoy life a bit. That being said, however, if you are planning to do any travelling within China at that time, prices are high, and everything is booked up and pretty much packed, from what I have heard from others.

September 03, 2007, 10:53 AMWe haven't scheduled the visit to the CPod Factory yet... Actually it is too bad that I will not have the chance to meet goulnik & Bazza despite the fact that we are all in Shanghai within a relatively short period of time...

August 31, 2007, 07:32 PMMy wife carefully chose the 16-21 of September for our trip to Shanghai to evade the holiday migration movements. 人山人海 and 一窝蜂 are not exactly phrases that describe my kind of a romantic holiday...
