October 13, 2009, 03:58 AMnin hao Lily, I am looking forward to our chat. If you don't mind, could we squeeze in a quick reading of a poem? I would like to get your feedback on my pronunciation. I am learning to memorize it for a Chinese speech competition in two weeks?
Here it is:
标题 :水调歌头
作者 :苏轼
明月几时有?
把酒问青天。
不知天上宫阙,
今夕是何年。
我欲乘风归去,
又恐琼楼玉宇,
高处不胜寒。
起舞弄清影,
何似在人间!
转朱阁,
低绮户,
照无眠。
不应有恨,
何事长向别时圆?
人有悲欢离合,
月有阴晴圆缺,
此事古难全。
但愿人长久,
千里共婵娟。

November 10, 2009, 04:44 AMNin hao Lily Laoshi, if it would not be too much trouble, before we practice the lesson dialogue, I would like to recite for you another speech I have created for an upcoming Greater Houston Chinese Speech competition that will be this coming Sunday. By the way, I did earn 1st place in the poem receital.
Since I did not have much time to prepare since the last poem receital competition, I came up with a way to use what I had learned in a speech that still speaks the truth about me and fits under the theme of "China and you." Here it is:

Now, this speech is still above my conversation capability but I use the speeches to learn more vocab, get exposure to more grammar, help reinforce proper tone pronunciation and to push me outside my comfort zone speaking Chinese in front of judges and a large group of native Chinese speakers.

November 12, 2009, 04:10 AMNin hao Lily, I had a chance to practice in front of some Chinese colleagues at work today and it seemed they also agree with your comments about the speech being a little difficult. They helped me to further simplify the closing. Am looking forward to sharing with you, hear it is:

November 10, 2009, 01:42 PMThank you. Yes, I have found this to be difficult to learn. I intended to have a simpler intro and close but sharing the true sentiment was more important so I am pushing myself to learn it. I look forward to your feedback and appreciate the extra focus.
