If I want to say "He didn't go to school", which sentence should I say?:

Ta1 mei2 qu4 xue2xiao4?

or

Ta1 bu4 qu4 xue2xiao4 le?

Hi Steve,

You can definitely put yao4 before any verb to indicate that you will be doing that action in the future. we say xiang3 yao4 just to express what we are thinking for and jiang1 yao4 to express what is going to happen. But we can just use yao4 for all the situations.

I forget if I mentioned it during our first phone call, but I had Mandarin lessons for two months in 2007.  So some of the newbie lessons are review to me.

The lessons you assigned for weeks 1 & 4 are review to me, but weeks 2 & 3 are pretty new to me.

I also have a lot of free time, so I can probably learn more than 2 lessons a week if that is ok.

Steve,

I am afraid you did't mention that on the first phone, but it is ok. We can change it after the first month since the first lesson plan has been assigned to your lesson tab. is it ok? Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you for the lesson plan Amanda.  I have a question.  Why can the character for "yào" be either "to want" or "to be going to"?

Can you put "yào" before any verb to indicate that you will be doing that action in the future?

because "runny nose" is you have a lot of snivel in the nose, bi2 ti4 is snivel. Nose can not be runny but snivel can be runny.

When talking about an object and describing it, is the formula "adjective + de + noun"?

For example:

Look at the pretty girl.

Kànkàn piàoliang de nǔhái.

Are there any rules for choosing between "yào" and "huì" when talking about something in the future?

For example:

1. Wǒ míngtiān yào qù Běijīng.

2. Wo míngtiān huì qù Běijīng.

yao4 and hui4 is overlap, but xiang3 yao4 is want to have something. hui4 will do something. The formular about adjective is right. You made a good example: kan4 kan4 piao4 liang de nu3 hai2,haha

Wait, I don't understand "xiang3 yao4".  Doesn't "xiang3 you3" mean "to want to have something"?

"to have a runny nose" is liu2 bi2ti4.

Why is it not liu2 bi2zi instead?
