September 21, 2007, 07:31 AM posted in General DiscussionAn expression I hear in about every second conversation is
折腾
which I know from the Advanced lesson on Fengshui:
http://chinesepod.com/learnchinese/%e9%a3%8e%e6%b0%b4/
as "to do something repeatedly"
and from the one on the Golden Week
http://chinesepod.com/learnchinese/%e5%8d%81%e4%b8%80%e6%97%85%e6%b8%b8%e9%ab%98%e5%b3%b0%e6%9c%9f/
as "to cause physical or mental suffering" .
The CPod dict translates it with
http://labs.chinesepod.com/?q=node%2F4&search=%E6%8A%98%E8%85%BE
"to roll about"
I think this multi-faceted, high frequency expression deserves some more air time...

September 21, 2007, 11:51 PMaeflow: it is also used, when someone complains about others who are making an innecessary fuzz and move around all the time. Doc: I don't think I have any special pictures. Or do you mean those with me, my wife, Amber and Jenny :P

September 22, 2007, 12:32 PMDoc, just saw that all my pics include either Lantian or my wife and both prefer to stay in the shadows...I will do some cutting first.

September 21, 2007, 02:21 PMDictionaries show all three definitions (the last being something like "toss and turn"). The real question is, what are you doing and what's going on, if you're constantly hearing this word. Hmmm.... I hope your marriage isn't in trouble :)
