Linux Firefox Text Settings

Hey all,

I've just made the switch back to Linux after a bit of an absence (and loving the new ubuntu!). Just wondering if any fellow users are here and if so, what settings do you use for text display?

Some chinese characters in the flash card app are appearing a bit blocky. Characters like 讀書 are appearing quite hard to read. Zooming in also doesn't seem to help. I think the lines are just too thick.

Any advice would be appreciated.

謝謝!

I'm using Lucid, and it's great. What do you mean by settings for text display? I have just installed everything I need under Systemn > Language Support, adding input methods (IBus is best, I find) and extra fonts for Chinese Simplified and Traditional.

You can also install extra Chinese support fonts and packages through the Software Center (look under fonts, and search for "Chinese" or "CJK")

My ubuntu laptop is much better at displaying Chinese than my hideous old Windows machine at work.

Good luck!

Hi thinkbuddha,

Generally speaking the text display for Hanzi characters are fine. I just find that when I am using the flash card app, the text can look a bit blocky on some of the more complex characters.

I wonder if the flash card app uses a different plugin?!? Do I need to change some java settings or something? The same cards on my windows machine are much clearer. Strange stuff considering text elsewhere looks great.

Thanks
