pronouncing chinese R

Does anyone have any helpful advice on how to pronounce the Chinese "R" such as the one in  Rìběn (日本) ?

Try pronouncing it as if you would if you were going roll your "r", except try doing it through clenched teeth so your tongue can't move foward immediately afterward.
