Dear Crystal,

I'm a bit confused by the usage of 了in a couple of sentences in the Tai Chi lesson. For instance, 太极拳不仅结合了健身与搏击， 还包含了深刻的中国古典哲学。There doesn't seem to be any reference to the past here or any sence of completion of an action. It feels like 了 doesn't belong here at all. Could you please explain?

here 了 is optional.

 I think 结合 and 包含 can be the actions that have been finished, because 太极 is in a state of “结合。。。，包含。。。”
