Bicycle licences etc.

October 14, 2007, 01:56 PM posted in General DiscussionI searched the Cpod lessons on bicycle related topics, but didn't find anything on how to apply for a bike licence. Would that be worth a lesson? Maybe there is something similar on how to fill in forms and such. In addition some information on peculiar Chinese traffic signs might be nice. (No, I am not thinking of "No Spitting" signs and such likes.)

October 14, 2007, 02:33 PMWow, haven't heard of this one. However, it wouldn't surprise me if this type of license was necessary. The amount of bureaucracy in this country is amazing.

October 14, 2007, 03:05 PMNot necessary in Beijing. Obviously other things are not necessary either (lights, helmet, brakes,..).

October 14, 2007, 03:28 PMHarbin has no traffic laws. In fact, from what I understand, most cities in China don't have traffic laws. Instead, they have "guidelines" which are locked up in some file cabinet coated in dust.

October 14, 2007, 04:09 PMHere's a official site for bicycle licences in Shanghai: "http://www.shanghai.gov.cn/shanghai/node8059/ServiceforCitizen/node8134/node8135/userobject22ai9350.html" I also find this information quite useful: http://wikitravel.org/en/Driving_in_China

October 14, 2007, 02:12 PMDo you have to apply for bicycle licenses in Shanghai? Or do you mean motorbikes? Nothing of that sort in Sichuan. You buy your bike and that's that...
