Language on a Plane

A post on how Berlitz is offering language training as in-flight entertainment. One wonders how much learning can be down in such a short period of time and also why people don't just travel with iPods.

I think short 'learning objects' can work very well for language learning (or indeed anything else). The question for me concerns the quality of the lessons. All these new media - podcasting, blogs, instant messaging, multi-media formats, etc - have their own strengths and weaknesses. They tend not to work if you just use them to automate the old instructional ways. I wonder if Berlitz get this point in their instructional design. I also do agree that an iPod may be a better option in many ways.
