Can someone tell me how to say 'crown', as in dental crown, in Chinese (pin yin and hanyu)? I can't find it in any of my dictionaries.

Thanks in advance!

Eric,

In my dictionary, dental crown=牙冠ya2guan4

Eric,

the translation is quite literal:

牙冠 yáguān ("tooth crown")

AKA 齿冠 chǐguān (also "tooth crown")

(going by the Google hit metric 牙冠 is much more common)

But is it guān or guàn?

oops, henning, I think you are right!

I seldom use this word, but after relook up this word in the dictionary, I am sure it is 牙冠ya2guan1.

冠is a polyphone.

鸡冠ji1guan1=cockscomb

冠军guan4jun1=champion

Thanks to you both! Now I have the word, all I need is the courage and the cash.
