Interesting article from the BBC.  Make sure to watch the videos for a little Mandarin listening.

The Economist just ran a couple of lengthy articles about China and the Olympics, as well as a big feature about sports as a business: "Fun, Games and Money" is the first article of about ten.

I'll be very pleasantly surprised if those links actually work from within China.

To be honest, I find articles like these MUCH more interesting than the sports themselves - until this year, I didn't realize so many people cared about the Olympics. I didn't pay much attention to Atlanta or Sydney or Athens; I doubt I'll follow Beijing much either.

Calkins:

The games have DEFINATELY changed China for the better.  The worlds attention has really given the Chinese people a shot in the arm of national pride, all over my neighborhood (almost 80% Chinese) all the people I talk to say they (especially after seeing the grandeur of the opening ceremony) that they are VERY proud to be Chinese.

中国加油,中国加油!
