Jezza and Madeleine's discussion

Jezza, both our dialogues (growing affections and scheming girls) are so hilarious- we have to compliment each other so much haha! ohwell, I think its a good thing, as now we can really exaggerate our parts and have fun with it.

I think the writers of these dialogues had a lot of fun with it. In each one there seems to be a scandal or some sort of mystery which leads onto the next one.

In 'A fated meeting' the characters are quite held back as they are only just meeting in person, and they seem to become more comfortable with each other throughout the following scenes.

In 'growing affections' I think that Lili and Zhang are not only getting to know each other's qirks but also really falling for each other. It seems theres more affection than what is actually being said...so we need to make sure we depict that clearly when we are acting it out- maybe use heaps of gestures, smiles and pauses etc.

'The jealous friend' was is really interesting as it brings the feelings of lili's best friend into the picture. She is jealous of all the time that lili is spending with Zhang, and she feels neglected.

The 'lovers spat' is really quite funny as their fight is only about shopping and not very serious. It really depicts how much zhang cares about lili's feelings and how touchy they are with each other.

The 'love letter' shows how much zhang cares for lili and how lili appears to think that hes a bit cheesy.

an 'old flame' is interesting as one of lili's ex boyfriends who happens to be a very successful and rich man runs into lili and they plan to meet up again.

'a guys advice on women' is zhang's brother telling him to come to terms with the fact that lili is cheating on him with her rich ex boyfriend. Its obvious that the brother is still hurt about the way his ex girlfriend treated him, and he appears to be anti- women!

'scheming girls' is lili's best friend attempting to get her friend to make a move on zhang. I think its a reflection of the best friend's jealously towards lili's relationship, as if she causes trouble, they make break up, and then she may get her best friend back.

the 'come on' is the result of the scheme. The friend overtly compliments zhang in attempt to get his attention. Of course it works as zhang is not used to being so loved, as lili doesnt like to be cheesy.

Its all about the issues that arise with relationships, and how delicate situations can be.

Hey Maddy, There is definitely a lot of flirting happening, and it's a bit funny too "your eye lashes are so pretty" - "that's because I wear mascara". Obviously Zhang Liang is trying his best to be romantic and endearing and is then flatly rejected by Lili....not sure I like this Lili. Thanks for your explanation of all the other dialogues, haven't gotten around to reading them yet, but I will by this Friday. Should be interesting rehearsing these! Enjoy!

I think Lili is just a bit conservative and also down to earth so she prefers hanging out with zhang and feels a little uncomfortable with all the compliments. I think that deep down she probably really enjoys the attention... but remember that chinese people are really modest and its in their culture to not agree with compliments.

....or maybe shes just playing hard to get! hehe

Haha, maybe you have a point there! I am so glad I finally found our conversation, note to self: always look in forum. Ok so I have finally read "Scheming Girls" and FeiFei is definitely scheming something. The dialogue ends on a cliff-hanger: will Chen Jing ask Zhang Liang out for lunch or not?? It is definitely obvious that Chen Jing is interested in him, after all the compliments she awarded him. In the conversation it is not clear why FeiFei is encouraging her friend to meddle in her best friend's relationship but it is clear that her motives can't be innocent. In conclusion, it is obvious FeiFei is the "baddy" in this story, and Chen Jing is her gullible side kick. Obviously, in the later dialogues it explains why FeiFei is meddling, I will check them out now! P.S. i suggest when acting this out we both use very exaggerated reactions like they do in some Chinese films. Especially for "You're saying Zhang Liang and Lili are a couple?" A really big show of surprise would work well there, and also for FeiFei's previous line: "Now way! what a coincidence!" etc Hahaha, this is going to be so funny!

I have just read "A Jealous Friend" and I can't believe how blunt FeiFei is. First she brings up the fact that Lili always complains about Zhang's working hours, then she says in front of him that Lili values Zhang over her and then she attacks Lili for acting like a "house wife". FeiFei is so rude in this dialogue, I can't believe that LiLi and Zhang put up with it. It is obvious however that Lili and FeiFei must have a strong relationship because Li always talks about Fei and Fei get's so jealous of her new boyfriend. This could explain why she tries to meddle in her best friend's new relationship, her anger and resentment motivate her to try and break them apart.

yep- i totally agree with ur analysis of feifei's motives. shes upset that she doesnt get to see her friend anymore so shes undermining the relo.

how do u think we should play out our scenes? lik should we be walking around/standing/sitting? I thinkit would be better to do an active one. oh and we must talk about costumes! i think for growing affections i should look really girly and u should obviously look like a man..a hat perhaps?
