Some other pics from the New Years Day parade, some of the other interesting flavors.  Calkins (http://chinesepod.com/community/profile/view/calkins) is from Chicago, so he should be able to recognize some of these land marks.  The pics later in the set are some other parts of Chicago taken that day.

Those kids in the third picture are playing腰鼓yao1gu3. (sorry, i don't know how to say 腰鼓in English.)

And I am interested in the eighth and ninth pictures. Anyone can please introduce these two land marks for us?^_^

腰鼓 from what I can make of it is a waist drum?  (I cheated and used google translator)

Picture 8 is called called "Cloudscape" and is part of Millenium Park in Chicago.  If you are ever in town, this is one place you definitely must visit.  The art piece is known by locals as the "Bean" because of how it looks.  There are other good displays of modern archictecture and art in this park.   They'll run free jazz and classical concernts in the nearby Pritzker Pavillion during the summer (which is another interesting piece of architecture).   There was huge contreversy when the "Bean" was erected as it ran into the millions of dollars.  The "Bean" is one of my favorite local land marks as it captures the city's skyline nicely in its reflection.

Picture 9 is a 50 foot statue of a famous painting called "American Gothic".  This is along the "Mag Mile" and was just put up.  The last time I was there this wasn't around.

Enjoy.  I hope to make it out to Shanghai and Beijing in my lifetime.

谢谢你davidtzau for the details, the "bean"'s reflection is amazing,太酷了! I am going to read more about the "American Gothic" online. I have had heard about it before but never try to know it.

没问题.  There are other parts of the city that are 太酷 just as I'm sure there are in your home town.  You are forcing me to 练习 by writing Chinese.

I apologize for the Chinglish, I'm still learning.

ha, davidtzau, it is fine! To be honest, I think it is kind of fun to write half chinese and half english, even chinglish. We are all learning here! Never mind!
