Vogons: 勃根人 (another one in the series "absolutely indespensible vocab")

I learn a lot from these jokes. Although I eventually figure them out, many of the constructions are really new to me. For example: 但唱的不堪入耳, I think means his singing was unbearable. But I would never think to phrase it that way! My English speaking mind just doesn't think that way...yet. Maybe you can help me with this. 并对他说：“你必须听我唱歌，否则我就杀了你。” I think he is saying, "You better listen to me sing or I will kill you." But why is there a le after sha1. Wouldn't that indicate a past action( as in I killed you) vs a future action? I'm sure I'm missing something, but I rarely miss the humor in your postings. Thanks!

It's sneaky little particle is 了 and doesn't always mean past tense. I think we could do with a whole lesson on it, or at least a "Qing Wen".

Oh nevermind, today's Qing Wen is about 了. LOL

And it is exactly about the 了 in discussion here...
