Problems downloading lesson files with WLCP

Dear WLCP,

I subscribe to (i.e. pay for) the ChinesePod online courses and am very grateful for your sw WLCP, as it has allowed me to continue to use my lessons when I don't have web access (which is often, as our internet connection is very slow and unstable).

I am having trouble downloading some files, when the name of the lesson has an unusual punctuation mark or Chinese character in it. E.g. the Intermediate lesson 'China's Supergirl' shows the following text string in the URL: china%E2%80%99s-supergirl. It seems as if the apostrophe in the name has been replaced by some weird letter and symbol combinations.

When I copy this text string exactly, with all the weird letter and symbol combinations, the file won't download.

Other lessons, such as Newbie 'Guess what I'm learning' also can't be downloaded, even though the text string in the URL here is very straightforward (guess-what-im-learning) with no weird symbols to replace the apostrope in the name.

I hope someone can shed some light on these problems.

Hi carolq,

This problem usually occurs with Internet Explorer when there are unicode characters in the lesson name, try using Firefox to copy and paste the lesson names. Also ensure you are using a text editor that supports unicode UTF-8 text files when editing lessons.txt. There is more information on these issues in some of our earlier posts here:

WLCP is broken again. Some changes in the lesson page html code are preventing WLCP from downloading the main lesson mp3 and pdf files. This only effects lessons from the past two weeks. I am working on a fix, but it may be a week or so before I can release a new version as I am a bit short of time at the moment...
