March 01, 2015, 06:31 AMthe last couple of months has been a transition period for students here. it's taken me some attitude adjustments to appreciate the changes. since i'm an early Chinesepod student, i got used to the Shanghai crew over the years. Jenny Zhu is probably considered one of the most popular online teachers of mandarin. she has the personailty, intelligence and the linguistic skills to navigate bi-lingually and has a great sense of humor. in addition, her vocal dexterity and clearness of voice is extraordinary as was Vera's. the present crew is doing a good job. there are phrases in Taiwan that don't coincide with the Mainland, i'm still figuring out which do and which don't. clearly Constance and Fiona do not have 大陆北方 accents but nor do they speak 台湾国语 either, it's somewhere in between. actually the Shanghai crew was similarly positioned in terms of accent. most Shanghainese and Taiwan friends I know do not pronouce chi, shi, zhi sounds nor do they use 儿话音. so when i speak to them in my Chinesepod influenced accent, they inform me that i sound like 北方人, "很标准". i have a Chinese teacher here in the States that goes as far as saying "Taiwan has ruined the Chinese language". i don't think she's kidding either but she is a native Beijinger so accordingly to her strict academic background, it's natural she would say this. regardless of the argument for or against, i still find Chinesepod very useful in improving my month to month studies, at least in terms of vocabulary improvement, reading skills and listening comprehension. it is a long road to fluency, i have no intention of changing course at the present. actually the present upper intermediate and advanced lessons are very interesting and complex, learning new content all the time.

January 03, 2015, 06:09 PMWritten with much truth and heart. I'm still getting over the shock of our beloved Chinese teachers, albeit, online, not being there in 2015!.

January 03, 2015, 05:04 PMDoes anyone have an email address or other means of contact for Jenny Zhu or David Xu to share. I just wanted to communicate how sad is was to hear she has left Chinesepod. I'm sort of in shock that these fine teachers are no longer here. They have guided the lessons since I began learning Chinese. Very disappointed in the company for not having the foresight to retain their staff, this is not the way I imagined it happening. Thanks...
