Posted on: Guided Plan Gets Better! Plus: Poetry is Pending
January 19, 2009, 06:02 PM---Poems - yeah! (Personally, I'd love to see a continuation of What's the story, but poetry is very 新鲜 topic, despite their age, and a nice change inmidst business/politics vocab items. [I'm not referring to the lessons on CP but the Chinese materials I have to work with.])
---Are there any plans for a show that would make it possible to introduce everyday speech (or even minor accents), as not everyone's accent/pronunciation is as impeccable as in the recordings on ChinesePod. At lest this approach would tie in nicely with possible ideas for a new cultural show... I'm more interested in the practical aspects of a language and its regional variations than in its aesthetic appeal, but that might just be me ;) I know, the scope of CP probably is to teach Putonghua, but now that we get a poetry show, this argument is not without flaw :P
---I have yet to encounter a native speaker who uses many chengyu, but I find that those non-chengyu-non-suhua-yet-cryptical-expressions (usually 4字 as well, or more) are used quite frequently, which is somewhat annoying because due to them, my listening seems so poor.

Whose handwriting is that in the lesson picture? ;)

January 23, 2009, 05:20 PMCan this 挂 be used for audio chats via MSN et al. as well? I'm wondering because technically, there is nothing to 挂...;) (Besides, we wouldn't use "hang up" in this context, either...)
