It always makes me feel a little sad when somebody comes back from a far away land probably likely never to live there again. Kind of makes me feel that the "playtime years" are over and now it's time to face the "real world". I don't know if any of you know what I mean, hehe.

Amber, it is obvious that you will be missed by a lot of people, I wish you the best for life in NY. :)

It's not just the "er". I find they also tend to drop the "zh" in fast speech. Also with the "ing" ending the word sounds a bit like they're adding a "y" to accentuate the sound.

Fuwuyuanr, lai yi pying shuir!

Yes, through my experience the whole 哪里哪里 thing is really a bad way to go and people start giggling around you.

This topic of conversation nearly always brings out the rudeness in people for some reason. Even my friend who I have known for some time now was sitting together with me for dinner and said to a Chinese friend next to her "我跟他说中文的时候,总是有奇怪的感觉。" (When I speak Chinese with him I always  feel weird). Or something very similar. Just makes you feel like you're fighting a losing battle sometimes.

This lesson really rang true and I know definitely will do in the future when I eventually go to China for study. Next year I'll be sharing a flat with all Chinese people from my university so I should be able to get a lot of practise in everyday. It will be interesting to see how much Chinese I'll actually be allowed to speak hehe.

A "Hello! You are..."

B "对不起,我不会说英语,我是俄国人."

A "О! Привет! Давай говорим по-русски!"

B "Oh for goodness sake..."

Please please please do more shows with the street interviews. Hearing Jenny's crystal clear pronunciation is nice, however we need to be exposed to Chinese as it's actually spoken :) Great show Amber I loved it.

I love this lesson! :)

Who hasn't as a small child run to their mother clutching their stomach asking their mother if their is somthing to eat only to have the reply "吃个苹果就好“ haha. Knowing fully well that what you really mean was "Mum, where's the cake?"
