I hope I'm not double posting this comment...got a bit confused yesterday. I think that the Pinyin Chart is a work of genius. John, I am wondering if you would consider adding additional audio combinations, for example, for 1st and 3rd tone, 2nd and 4th, 3rd and 4th...you get the idea. I know this would be a lot of work but I think all Newbies would benefit.
I dropped out for almost 4 months, just after starting out on ChinesePod...but I'm back and hope to stick with it this time around. I never considered learning to read characters, however, until I logged onto the site. I was just hoping to learn enough Mandarin to make my way around Taiwan when I go back to visit... I guess I need to think about what it would be like to be able to speak but not read English even if I were just visiting the States.
