Oh dear Pete, only now I hear that you're leaving, even though the last two weeks I have automatically downloaded and listened to your voice in the QW's in the subway as if nothing happened!

What a wonderful asset you've been to Chinese pod! Especially your Poems with Pete were absolutely wonderful, real pearls that I'll be listening to and read many times in the future. Not just Pearl tower Pete, rather Genuine Pearl Pete.

Thank you for everything, you will be missed.

Hi guys, great lesson again!

There seems to be a sentence missing in the dialogue. After saying 请求上帝宽恕你的罪恶, the lady says someting else, that starts with: 嗯,还有。。。 (to me it sounds like ''chui1 yang2zhao4hao4''). Does that have anything to do with blowing out something (candles)?

Oh no Pete!

Sitting in the subway to work, listening to your eloquent and high-quality show, as always, that sentennce you said all of a sudden in which you anouned to stop with the Poems with Pete made me feel hung over for the rest of the day.

I want to use this opportunity to thank you for your wonderful shows on poetry, I enjoyed every one of them, although I was about to ask if Baker Street could be replaced after all...;-)

Thanks Pete, you're the best! You have a fan!

Hi Pete,

Thank you once again for a masterpiece from one of the masters!

I'd love to hear your illustration of the use of 况乃.

Hi Changye, C-pod guru,

Thank you, that's what I thought, but in the lesson Conny uses 我对很多人有意思 very naturally. That kind of usage of 有意思 would then be an exception?

If I'm correct, then 有意思 should not be combined with 对...(有意思) at all, except when used in the sense of attraction to someone, like in 他对我有意思. Right?

Hi all,

Thanks for the lesson and the useful comments. I've alway wondered how 有意思 relates to 有/兴趣 (you3/gan3 xing4qu4).

What is for example the exact difference between the two in these sentences:

- 我对很多人有意思

- 我对学很兴趣

Pete,

I don't know if someone already asked you, but are you going to do a poem by Du Fu as well? For example 孤雁 (gū yàn, 'the solitary goose'), sad (like almost all of his poems) but elegant.

Or, now that you did a poem by Li Bai, 天末怀李白 (thinking of Li Bai at the end of the sky).

Hi Pete,

Thanks for an excellent 'Poems with Pete' again!

Here is a beautiful translation from the famous Dutch Sinology professor W.L. Idema:

Tussen de bloemen één kruik wijn:

Ik schenk me in maar ben alleen.

Ik hef de beker, nood zo Maan,

Plus Schaduw zijn we met ons drieën.

Van drinken heeft Maan geen verstand

En Schaduw loopt me enkel na.

Het is gezelschap, Maan en Schaduw -

genieten moet je van de lente!

Ik zing en Maan blijft bij me hangen,

Ik dans en her en der valt Schaduw.

Weer nuchter maken we plezier,

Straks dronken gaat weer elk zijns weegs.

Voor eeuwig sluiten we nu vriendschap

En spreken af ginds bij de Wolkenstroom!

Quite hard to understand for non-Dutch speakers ;-), but there are two things that I'd like to point out:

1. I like the fact that Idema translates Moon and Shadow with capitals, as if they are actually his lonely friends, given a name.

2. A question: Idema translates 醒时同交欢 as 'weer nuchter maken we plezier' (sober again we enjoy ourselves). I don't understand where the 'again' comes from. Is that a mistake or a matter of interpretation?
