What is the 'ba' doing? If it is referring to 'qiang' as the direct object, I can understand its purpose. But why do you need it to do that.
????
Oh, and my wife is Chinese and it is great when I sometimes tune into the conversation between her (she also speaks excellent English) and our son, Zhao Yi. They are now not sure when I understand them and when not.

November 29, 2009, 07:52 AMYes, intermediate is challenging, particularly listening to Jenny speaking in unscriped Chinese.
But with careful listening and a dictionary I can work it out.
My comment on a lot of the above is that you are perhaps in danger of being too analytical. Having said that, CP is obviously an evolving concept, and requires constructive feedback.
I am not living in China, so it is all taking much more time.
My wife is Chinese although she does not teach me, rather she answers questions when I simply can't work something out. Having seen her learn to communicate in English over the last two years (she had learnt English at school/Uni but had not used it till she met me) it seems to me that real progress is best achieved surrounded by the sound and rythm of the language you are learning.
I believe that what I am doing carefully planting the seed at the moment which will hopefully sprout in China.
For those of you feeling frustration at understanding spoken Chinese. I still can't work out what my wife and son are saying, and Chinese television is an excersize in snatching words and phrases as they fly by. But slowly more an more bits are being caught thanks to ChinesePod
Finally, I would like to see an extension section where a questions is asked in Chinese - we give an unscripted answer - an CP then gives an answer. That would help us to listen to questions and formulate an answer.

June 06, 2013, 10:26 PMMy son has a degree in dance, and went on to be a professional dancer. He is much stronger and has more stamina than most football players. BUT the other major side benefit ..... he is definitely a heterosexual male (he now has 3 children), and being with all those beautiful ballerinas, all in their early 20s, was like having his own personal harem. There was not much male competition it seems. So, to say 娘娘腔了 certainly misses the point.
