November 12, 2008, 03:49 AMit's funny how superstitious chinese people can be. When i was in taiwan, people would compare zodiac signs, blood types, and everything else under the sun to see if one was compatible with the other.
Although my dad is chinese, he never raised me with any of those beliefs, although it's ironic since my parent's address has multiple 8's in it as well as is in the form of si he yuan, plus it is all feng shui friendly. Maybe that would make a good lesson....feng shui

May 03, 2008, 04:00 AMCPOD 朋友們好！ 你們說到的課程非常有意思。我覺得同時認同中國的傳統觀念和美國的開放觀念滿難的。 (did I say that correctly?) Anyways, being an ABC and growing up in America is definitely challenging. Now that I am in the working world, many of my coworkers are american who were born and raised here and have totally different values than I have. Not that that is bad, I just can't communicate with them and feel comfortable around them like I can with my other friends who aren't necessarily Chinese, but Asian American or of any other foreign descent for that matter. Whenever I go back to China or Taiwan, I feel like I can identify with people over there so easily. I would say that my values are a good mix some American but mostly traditional Chinese values and it seems like that is how many ABC's are nowadays. Anyways, great lesson guys...keep them coming!

April 09, 2008, 01:47 PMhey guys....I think this was a really good lesson! Now I understand all the uses of 吧! I was wondering if you guys could clarify how to use 啦. I hear it everywhere in Taiwan but never used it because I always hear it's a feminine term. Girls use it all the time but rarely hear guys saying it. What is your guys' opinion?

February 26, 2008, 04:38 AMI never understood the elevator/subway deal either! People, at least when I was in Taiwan, never waited for you to get off the subway before they started barging in! That was super annoying. So after awhile I got smart, I waited for everyone else to get on, then right before the doors would close I would jump across the line and squeeze myself at the last second! It worked like a charm, and I never missed another stop ever again! There is nothing worse than being stuck in the subway during rush hour. Like they say 人山人海！
