Is there any rule of thumb for translating product names?

October 17, 2013, 06:17 AMI went to Lhasa earlier this year (May), part of the conditions for getting a "Tibet travel permit" were that I had to have a guide. When he met me at the airport I tried to speak my best Chinese Pod phrases, but he politely told me (in English) that although he spoke putonghua his native language was Tibetan and that he would only speak English with me.
He also suggested I didn't shower, because while my body was getting used to the altitude it was weak and more susceptible to catching a cold. I showered on the second day without a problem, though I did suffer from headaches throughout my short stay.
