April 09, 2011, 05:03 PMGreat lesson. Thanks John for talking about 了 in different contexts, I found it very helpful.

March 23, 2011, 03:13 PMI've looked into this and apparently all you need to get in is the fees, a HSK level 4 pass certificate, a certificate of good health and a visa. Great huh? They do ask for your school results too but they're certainly not as demanding as the Western (In my case British) universities are for getting in to study Chinese.
Thanks for the lesson John and Dilu!
Posted on: What's in a name?
March 20, 2011, 01:15 PMMy Chinese first name is just a transliteration of my real name, Hazel, 海泽尔。 Very water related!

March 19, 2011, 04:15 PMI got that at school too but I think it must be a British thing.

February 25, 2011, 12:17 PMShe must not have been making her wedding ring obvious, or do Chinese people not wear rings as much?
Very funny dialogue and interesting lesson. Thanks Dilu and John!

December 15, 2010, 02:36 PM我弟弟吹大号。
My brother plays the tuba, I don't play anything.
Are 单簧管 and 黑管 both terms for a clarinet like the PDF indicates?
I've newly subscribed up to Premium and I can't work the sentence reordering section of the expansion exercises, can someone help me?

December 08, 2010, 02:33 PMThis has got to be one of the most interesting lessons ever for me. I've dabbled in learning sign language (British Sign Language fingerspelling) and I just find it really interesting, as if learning Chinese and Spanish wasn't enough.
After reading the comments I'm really intrigued about how difficult Mandarin is to lip read, think how hard tones must be in that situation!
Thanks for the lesson.
Posted on: Trick or Treat!
November 01, 2010, 05:38 PMI've never been that into Halloween, maybe it's cause when I was young enough for trick or treating we lived in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours. Never mind Bonfire Night is better, fireworks and chocolate!
Posted on: Fasten that Safety Belt
October 29, 2010, 01:53 PMHere in the UK the seatbelt laws have been in force for decades but they still feel the need to put on graphic ads comparing a splattered pizza with a head hitting a windscreen (and that's the least graphic one!) Maybe they should try this in China.

April 25, 2011, 11:58 AMI get Phoenix channel too but whenever I turn it over its always chat shows or news on. When are these serials on? I also get CCTV9 but it's almost all in English, which I personally find quite annoying, even though their "Learning Chinese" programme can be quite useful.
Actually the only Chinese programmes I've ever been able to watch were on YouKu, the chinese version of "Ugly Betty" is an experience to watch shall we say.
