我想跟你去。express a kind of sense "I also want to go there so I follow you(跟means follow)" or "I want to go there only with you(你)"
我想跟你一起去。besides the two meanings maybe the emphasis here is "together"(two people)
here you can consider they are the same.
In my opinion,跟==and , 一起==together

for example:
我们(just you&me)一起玩==你跟我一起玩
we play together. you and(with) me play together.

so you could delete "了"

"艰难"一般用于描述完成一些事件(different)
