Lately I've had trouble accessing any tab other than "Discussion". When I click on "Vocabulary", or any other tab, it says "loading", but then goes back to "Discussion". Is anyone else having this problem?

I love media lessons, but I can't follow this one at all. Many of the vocabulary words they are discussing are not on the vocabulary list. Also, I wish there were a way to see the original article in traditional characters. I'm a Taiwan girl:)

"Spare the rod, spoil the child" comes from the Bible. Most of the people who take this view are religious people who take the Bible literally.

I can read this lesson, but I apologize for not being able to ask my question in Chinese. I am going to Taipei, Taiwan soon to pick up my new adopted son. What is the "hong bao" situation in Taiwan? should we give one to the social workers? The foster parents? The interpreter/guides? Thanks!

Thanks so much for the transcript, Babardawan. The word "chu qian" was really bothering me... Now I get it.

In your experience, are children afraid of lao wai? We are adopting a five-year-old child from Taiwan soon. I'm afraid he will be freaked out and run screaming because I have very long, very curly hair, and my husband has a blond/gray beard. Not to mention the nose thing.

By the way, pajamas in public is also a time-honored tradition in my neighborhood-- Flushing, NY.

Excuse me for writing in English, but did this stock analyst guy belch on national television? About 30 seconds into the program, after he says tan yi tan...

There is an error in the lesson introduction. It should be "Let's hope you're (you are) the former..." not "Let's hope your the former..." This is a classic error for native speakers of English.

I disagree about this lesson not being practical. We have a hybrid car, and my husband is obsessed with it. He has had this exact conversation at every dinner party for the last four years. Then, weather permitting, he takes the guests out and shows them the car. Now he can do it in Chinese...
