What's the difference between 出来 and 出去? Is it interchangeable here? (...一起出来吃饭...) I thought it might be the subject of a Qinwen but a search didn't find anything.

There is a great Chinese blog about mostly Sichuan food. He has a lot of nice photos of menus and dishes with the names.

Hi Pete,

William McDonough has some interesting ideas about farming in China. He has a talk about cradle to cradle on TED. He's also involved in the China-U.S. Center for Sustainable Development

There is a great reading by Gary Snyder from Axe Handles on the Internet Archive.

Speaking of farming, does anyone else find it strange to be called a ‘poddy'? Coming from a dairy farming family it has a very different meaning. When you talk about ‘poddies' I can just picture a bunch of little cows with ipods all learning to moo in Chinese... (what do you use in Chinese for the sound a cow makes?)

Thanks for another great poem!

Could you do a 苏轼 poem?

Will you cover any contemporary poets?

Does anyone know a way to change the Chinese font in my browser to something more readable? I really struggle trying to copy characters like 戴. (不用说:戴眼镜!)

Bill Porters explanation from "The Collected Songs of Cold Mountain"

"The girsly scene in the opening line was not uncommon in China even in the 20th century. In this case, the massacres of the An Lu Shan rebellion come to mind. Buddhists consider butchering animals a guarantee for rebirth in Hell. Here, however, lotuses of blamelessness rise from the cauldrons of our past karma and provide an escape from Hell's fires."
