February 04, 2019, 03:25 PMI note the apology phrases that used “this child” rather than use “my child”. It is putting a little distance between you and the child, and it comes naturally when your child is misbehaving.

June 04, 2011, 02:02 AMOne term that keeps popping up in Chinese movies with english translation is "bullying". You're bullying me, you're a bully. It's in the martial arts films and family dramas. Any idea what word they are using?

February 04, 2010, 03:08 AMFirst, I'm glad that in my mind I translated yi1fu as "shirts" because it proceeded "kuzi" . I give myself full credit for that one, given Jenny's explanation of yifu being clothes on the upper body.
Second, I can never quite understand all the words in the Elementary dialogue until Jenny repeats them, meaning that out one billion or so mandarin speakers, I can understand precisely one.

May 09, 2019, 02:05 PMIf there are three or more parties, would one say “dou ying”?
