July 19, 2009, 08:25 PMThe chengyu "青梅竹马" comes from a poem (《长干行》)by Li Bai (李白). I thought Pete would have known it :)

March 02, 2008, 05:36 AMcalkins, 这些 (zhèxiē) really does mean "these". Saying 这本 (zhè běn) means "this one book", because 本(běn) means "one book (or booklike thing)". If you want to use 本(běn) to express that there are many books, you have to either say how many there are eg. 这四本书 (zhè sì běn shū) "these four books" or 这几本书 (zhè jī běn shū) "these books (of not specific quantity)" I hope that was not too confusing... But the point is, that 这本 (zhè běn) alone cannot imply a plural. It would be nice if someone who really knows the language could say if this is correct. :)

October 24, 2007, 05:07 AMAbout saying I love you... My (Chinese) boyfriend told me he loved me quite soon after we got together. Now we are engaged and we say that to each other almost every day. But he also shows and expresses it in other ways. But it is same in Finland, we don't say that so often. My mother says it to me sometimes, but I hardly ever say that to them. -Kaixin

May 28, 2007, 10:24 AMI liked the lesson a lot. I only have some trouble keeping up with who is who, because the male voices sound so similar to me. But that is not necessarily a bad thing, it makes me more focused :) Thanks for the great lesson!
