我住在上海的时候我经常跟一些朋友去卡丁车道。中国和英国的卡丁车安全措施很不一样。在中国卡丁车开得比较快，不用带安全帽，可以碰撞其它车子，而且车道旁边可以买啤酒。太好玩。。。 我们有一次穿着卡通角色服装去卡丁车道。很象事实上地打马里奥卡丁车，不过香蕉皮都没有。

Oh, and can you 误 the bus or the 地铁？ Or does it have to be something that you have arranged in advance? How is it different from 错过？

Thanks for all those examples! I didn't realise 乘 could be used to mean "take advantage" as well. 乘兴 is a nice construction. Do I have it correctly as "while you're in the mood ... "? Makes me think of riding on a happy bus :-)

May 27, 2008, 01:48 PMGreat idea for lessons but I don't find the examples you give particularly strong versions of the accent. The Beijing one speaks clearly and the other two speak very fast but the accents don't seem that strong. Maybe because they're quite young people – can you find a 60+ year old Shanghainese with a really heavy accent next time? Would be cool ...

May 18, 2008, 11:14 AMmisterjess: depends what you mean by crime. If you mean DVD piracy, pickpocketing, selling fake designer clothes and traffic offences then China probably has way more crime. But violent theft, burglary, drugs, murder and that kind of thing rather less.

May 18, 2008, 11:10 AMuser36445: you can probably get away with it once especially if you smile, look innocent and play down your Mandarin ability. You have to register with a local station each time you move house: I didn't register in my first apt but registered (somewhat late) in my second one and they just told me to be more prompt next time. There's a lesson on this from not too long ago.

May 17, 2008, 09:38 PMHey, glad this topic came up. I was hoping to find a way to keep up with the Mandopop as I developed a guilty taste for it while I was there. Also like Shin's Siliao dou yao ai (but takes a few beers before I can hit the high notes ... ) 南拳妈妈 are pretty cool as well and I quite like some of 林俊杰's stuff, like 江南。

December 16, 2008, 12:28 PM理解 is theoretical understanding and 了解 is a deeper, experiential understanding? In fact, isn't that kind of the meaning of "praxis"?
