I once told a friend from China that I was going to Bali for a holiday. She insisted that I should get some fashionable clothes while I was there. It took a while to work out that she though I was going to Paris. Now I know to say 巴厘岛 Bālídǎo for Bali.
My impression of Parisians : friendly, sophisticated, civil, relaxed and proud. Once they've worked out that you are not American or British, then speaking English is forgiven. I'll go back there any time..
