I could never understand why anyone would not flush the toilet after using it.  Now, I think I know.  A long time ago, in Canada I had to use the bathroom at the airport.  Unfortunately, I could not figure how how to flush the thing.  I looked everywhere as well as touched and pushed EVERYTHING!!!!

Needless to say, I was to embarrassed to leave the toilet in a worse state than I had found it.

I apologized to the the person who had to use it after me.  SO, SO SORRY!!!!!!!

Out of curiosity if FANG is used to a LADY's name
(like my Chinese name), age, and heart what is the GENTLEMAN's character for name, age, and heart?

This past weekend, I visited a "farmer's house" for the first time.  When it seemed as if all eyes were on me, I decided it was time to pull "my emergency fork" from my purse.  (I, too, get nervous when everyone stares.)  Anyway, when the waitress saw me eating with a fork, she quickly rushed over to give me a tiny spoon.

I long for the day when I can be as confident as you and the other poddies.

I thought the shi...de pattern indicated the past tense.    zhe shi gan shenme yong de?
What is this used for?

However, I am seeing more and more examples of it being used in the present as well.  So, it's actually used for both?

JOHN, as soon as you said it, something clicked in
my mind.  So, I'm sure the next time I hear it, I'll automatically know what is being said.

Also, THANKS for telling us about attaching "bian" to seaSIDE, and riverSIDE.  Out of curiosity, can it be used for hillSIDE?

THANKS AGAIN.

changye, goulnik

Thank you for your input.  However, whenever I see "min" I wonder why it is used instead of "ren".

So, I decided to use "min" for things like...

"THE PEOPLE of Paraguay has a new president."  or

"THE PEOPLE gathered to put out the fire."

now I have a new theory...

THE FARMERS have to work in rice fields (min)
but

Farmers have to work in rice fields (ren)

I know this is an advanced lesson, but I want to ask a question that still puzzles me.

Is "ren" and "min" interchangeable?  Would the meaning change if I were to say "nongren"?

Out of curiosity, is "buhaoyisi" and "duibuqi" interchangeable?  They can both be used to mean, "I'm sorry."
