1。知道得很清楚。
2。大厅，调查。
"理解"有"了解"的意思，但是没有"了解"的第二种用法。
For instance:
你去了解一下今天的天气情况吧。
but you can't say:
你去理解一下今天的天气情况吧。
So the meanings are pretty close, but you can't go 理解 something.

That's the one, thanks! I just "learned" it the other day... lol... oh well!
I don't want to be misunderstood... of course measure words are important... I'm just saying I haven't seen any dictionaries or vocab lists with the measure words written with them. That said, I usually use a dictionary geared for foreigners. I have an all Chinese dictionary, but only use it as a last resort.
If I had to add something to the Chinesepod vocabulary, it'd be parts of speech!

December 23, 2008, 01:08 AMWell, tbh, I have a lot of experience with formal Chinese teaching (both as a student and teacher) and I have never seen a vocabulary list with such a thing (measure words listed concurrently). Me personally? I prefer learning the individual measure word and then working down from there. Most measure words encompass things with one main characteristic (scroll down to "More Idiomatic" section in below url). Several people have posted some charts already. I find this one to be the best:

As an added bonus, there's the Cantonese pronunciation.
In the end, I think it's really conducive to Chinese Learning to be able to guess measure words at some point. Since the only way to elevate one's level is to work with material higher than what you're at -- otherwise you'll stagnate. In fact, and the Chinese eludes me, but there's a 成语 that points out if you're not going forward, you're going backward. All that said, I think it's a lot of work to put in the measure words for each noun!
